New York Stories (1989)
Directed by Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola

Comedy / Drama / Romance
aka: Life Lessons

Film Synopsis

Three stories revolving around the city of New York.  In 'Life Lessons' Lionel Dobie is an abstract artist whose creative block is removed by jealousy when his ex-lover Paulette begins dating other artists.  Lionel soon becomes dangerously dependent on destructive relationships to maintain his latest creative spurt.  In 'Life Without Zoë', a young girl returns a valuable item of jewellery to an Arab princess and ends up trying to reconcile her divorced parents.  In 'Oedipus Wrecks', lawyer Sheldon has a strained relationship with his pathologically critical mother.  When his mother miraculously disappears in a stage conjuring act Sheldon can hardly believe his good fortune - until she reappears in the sky above the city.
