Film Synopsis

A croupier at a casino in Cannes, the handsome Kosta can no longer stand and watch idle millionaires fritter away and rake in money at the gambling tables.  One night, after an Italian industrialist named Pietro Olmi has pocketed 700 thousand francs in cash, Kosta follows him out into the casino gardens and robs him of his winnings.  Unaware that the assault has been witnessed by Lara, beautiful society woman, Kosta takes flight and hides the stolen money beneath the statue of the Virgin which dominates the city.  He than provides himself with an alibi by joining his colleagues at a nearby bar, blissfully unaware that his lighter has been found at the scene of the crime by Lara.  Before he knows it, Kosta is being pursued mercilessly by the astute but far from fair-minded Inspector Martino, who has no doubt that he is the man who robbed Olmi.  At the same time, Lara begins to subject him to a very peculiar form of blackmail.  For reasons known only to herself, she forces Kosta to break with his fiancée Judith and move into a luxurious villa.  Once Olmi as recovered from his injuries he shows up at Lara's house.  This is the point at which Kosta realises that he is trapped in a golden cage, about to become the victim of a very cruel game...
