Directed by Raymond Depardon

Documentary

Film Synopsis

In the immediate aftermath of the jihadist assault on the offices of Charlie Hebdo, France is in a state of shock.  In January 2015, a matters of days after the attack, documentary filmmaker Raymond Depardon travels the length and breadth of France to listen to what ordinary French people have to say.  From Charleville-Mézières to Nice, from Sète to Cherbourg, finally ending up in the suburbs of Paris, Depardon encounters a wide cross-section of the population, and in making this film he pieces together a complex portrait of a nation beset with problems and anxieties.  Some are concerned with having to live alone, others with their family breakdown.  In the spirit of Charlie Hebdo, Depardon gives his interlocutors the opportunity to talk freely and express themselves in their own language, without fear of censure or causing offence...
