Film Synopsis
Self-made man Hector Robilleau has recently acquired a French
historical castle, where he lives with his two daughters, his son
Émile and Gaston, the husband of the eldest daughter
Marguerite. Gaston is jealous and anxious over Marguerite's
obsession with books by a certain Robert Patrick. He is convinced
that his wife has fallen in love with the writer, even though no one
has ever seen his face. For this reason, he decides to engage the
services of Claude Barrois, a second-rate actor. Gaston pays
Claude to pose as Robert Patrick at a reception given by Hector, to
which only the rich and titled are invited. Even though Claude
plays the part of Robert Patrick as a rude, uncultivated person,
Marguerite cannot prevent herself from becoming more deeply enamoured of
him...
