Film Synopsis

After the death of their friend Jeanne, Marielle and Colombe, two sisters in their early forties, return to the house where they once spent the most memorable of summer holidays.  They are met by a neighbour, Pascal, whom Jeanne was deeply in love with, and his 19-year-old daughter Léo. Twelve years ago, the lives of these four people were very different and none could have foreseen that Jeanne would one day be driven to kill herself.  The memory of that summer is so vivid that it might have been just a few days ago.  It's shocking to see how much things have changed since.  A lot can happen in a decade and the sisters have been greatly altered by their own personal circumstances.  Marielle has separated from her husband and has given birth to a son, Benjamin, who is still a child - about the same age as Léo was during that memorable summer.

As Marielle, Colombe and Pascal gather their thoughts and replay the events of twelve years ago in their minds they cannot help reflecting on what could possibly have caused Jeanne to take her own life.  Inevitably, they each come to blame themselves.  Colombe regrets having an affair with Pascal.  Marielle's conscience is piqued by the fact that she used Jeanne's childhood recollections as the basis for a novel that she wrote.  Is it possible that the seeds of their present mourning were planted in that summer of twelve years ago?  Are they deceiving themselves in thinking that explanations for the present can always be found in the past...?
