Joseph L. Mankiewicz was an American screenwriter, film director and producer whose birth name was Joseph Leo Mankiewicz. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, USA on 11th February 1909 and died in Bedford, New York, USA on 5th February 1993, aged 83.

His best films as a screenwriter include Rowland V. Lee's thriller The Mysterious Dr. Fu Manchu (1929), Norman Z. McLeod's Finn and Hattie (1931), A Letter to Three Wives (1949), All About Eve (1950) and People Will Talk (1951), and whose best work as a film director include The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), A Letter to Three Wives (1949), All About Eve (1950) and People Will Talk (1951).
