David Lean was an English film director, screenwriter and producer. He was born in Croydon, Surrey, England on 25th March 1908 and died in London, England on 16th April 1991, aged 83.

His best films as a film director include Great Expectations (1946), Oliver Twist (1948), Hobson's Choice (1954) and The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), and whose best work as a screenwriter include Great Expectations (1946), Oliver Twist (1948) and Hobson's Choice (1954).
