Lucky Luke Daisy Town
1971 Animation / Comedy / Western

Review
Lucky Luke’s first cinematic outing was this entertaining and spirited animated film, the work of the famous cowboy’s creator, René Goscinny (who also gave us Astérix).  Although targeted at children, the film will appeal to adults, who will doubtless enjoy spotting references to classic American westerns.  The film’s sequel was La Ballade des Dalton (1978), which is regarded as one of the best examples of French animation.

Synopsis
When a bout of lawlessness breaks out in Daisy Town, only one man can put the gun slingers away and restore the town’s erstwhile harmony.  That man is Lucky Luke, a solitary cowboy, assisted by his ever-faithful horse, Jolly Jumper.  Lucky Luke’s most fearsome opponents are the dreaded Dalton brothers.  In their attempt to dispose of Lucky Luke and pursue their career of crime, the Dalton brothers are prepared to do anything, even allying themselves with the Indians…
