Zidane, un portrait du 21e siècle (2006) Directed by Douglas Gordon, Philippe Parreno
Documentary / Sport
aka: Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait
Film Synopsis
International football star Zinédine Zidane is the focus of this
real-time documentary, which follows him during a football match in
April 2005. The Spanish league match pits Real Madrid against
Villareal and takes place at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. With
17 high-definition cameras trained on Zidane, the film captures every
gesture the footballer makes and perhaps sheds some light on both the
man and his sporting genius.
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
It was American film noir and pulp fiction that kick-started the craze for thrillers in 1950s France and made it one of the most popular and enduring genres.
From Jean Renoir to François Truffaut, French cinema has no shortage of truly great filmmakers, each bringing a unique approach to the art of filmmaking.
