Vive la sociale! (1983)
Directed by Gérard Mordillat

Comedy

Film Synopsis

Maurice Decques was born in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, the son of an American anarchist and Communist locksmith.  He looks back on the major events of his life, from the 1930s to 1955 - his childhood, his parents' political battles, the people he used to know in his neighbourhood, his meeting with Alain Bombard, and his taste for adventure which propelled him into his working life and his marriage.  Overall, he concludes, it hasn't been a bad life...

The best French Films of the 1920s
sb-img-3
In the 1920s French cinema was at its most varied and stylish - witness the achievements of Abel Gance, Marcel L'Herbier, Jean Epstein and Jacques Feyder.
The very best French thrillers
sb-img-12
It was American film noir and pulp fiction that kick-started the craze for thrillers in 1950s France and made it one of the most popular and enduring genres.
The greatest French Films of all time
sb-img-4
With so many great films to choose from, it's nigh on impossible to compile a short-list of the best 15 French films of all time - but here's our feeble attempt to do just that.
The best of Indian cinema
sb-img-22
Forget Bollywood, the best of India's cinema is to be found elsewhere, most notably in the extraordinary work of Satyajit Ray.
The brighter side of Franz Kafka
sb-img-1
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
