Film Synopsis
The year 1936 offers the decadent and soulless world of the Greek
bourgeoisie few opportunities for intense living. This is felt
most by Margot Santorini, who conceals her romantic streak beneath a
mask of frivolity and cynicism. It has been a long time since she
and her husband Rico, a wealthy playboy, were in love. While he
amuses himself with his many short-lived affairs, she occupies herself
by looking for her beau idéal, the man who will satisfy her
every desire. Raoul Malfosse, the most ardent of her suitors, is
a strong candidate, but he is more interested in himself and his work
than in the fate of the world. One warm August night, Margot
oversees a man hunt from the window of her hotel room. Acting on
impulse, she takes pity on the fugitive, Michel Boutros, and hides him
in her room. She learns that Boutros is on the run from the
police because he is an enemy of the present Greek regime. Margot
is easily seduced by the courage and humanity of the man she has taken
into her care. As she begins to fall in love, Margot can have no
idea where this new romance will lead her...
