Film Synopsis

Pierre Chavanges is a 30-something dairy farmer who devotes himself body and soul to the small farm he has inherited from his parents.  Not long after an outbreak of an infectious disease in farm stock hits the news headlines, Pierre becomes worried when one of his beloved cows, Topaze, begins to show early signs of the illness.  Fearing the worst, he invites his sister Pascale, a veterinary by profession, to examine the stricken animal.  The prognosis isn't what he wanted to hear.

Pierre cannot bring himself to lose his herd, which he has looked after as carefully as a mother tends to her babies.  Rather than report the matter to the authorities and risk having his cattle destroyed, he opts to hide the infected cow.  He knows all too well what will happen if the news gets out that he has an infected herd, so he resolves to keep the information to himself.  To save his livestock and his livelihood, Pierre finds he has to resort to increasingly desperate measures, but he refuses to be beaten, even though the odds are wildly against him...
