Odette Toulemonde (2006)
Directed by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt

Comedy / Drama

Film Synopsis

Odette Toulemonde is an amiable forty-something who appears more than happy with her mediocre existence in Belgium.  She derives immense satisfaction from her routine job as an assistant in a large department store and is pleased by the way in which her two grown-up children are turning out.  Her life couldn't be better.  Her one passion in life is reading - especially books by her favourite writer, Balthazar Balsan.  It is her one ambition in life to meet this remarkably insightful author and tell him how grateful she is for the positive impact his work has had on her life.  Improbably, her dream comes true when, purely by chance, the writer finds himself in her part of the world.  Odette cannot resist a heaven-sent opportunity to confront the blessed Balsan and express her heartfelt gratitude for all that he has done for her.  Without him her life would scarcely have any meaning...
