Les Sultans (1966)
Directed by Jean Delannoy

Romance / Drama
aka: The Sultans

Film Synopsis

Laurent is a successful businessman whose main preoccupation at the moment is his 18-year-old daughter Kim.  The latter, it seems, is in a wretched state after being let down by her boyfriend.  Laurent agrees to come to her aid by posing as her lover at a nightclub frequented by his daughter's set.  When Kim's boyfriend turns up Laurent is surprised to find that he is about his own age, early-to-mid forties.  In fact he is so shocked by this discovery that the over-protective father cannot resist getting into a violent argument with the unsuitable suitor.

As luck would have it, this fracas is witnessed by a friend of Laurent's Italian mistress, Lisa.  A woman prone to violent passions, Lisa's thoughts turn at once to suicide when she hears of her lover's apparent betrayal.  Laurent gets to her just in time to explain the situation and they agree to go on a dancing date the following evening.  The next day, Lisa can't help wondering what has happened to her lover when he fails to turn up.  Laurent again lets his mistress down as he goes chasing after the man who is determined to take his daughter from him against his will...
