Les Grandes personnes (1961)
Directed by Jean Valère

Drama
aka: Time Out for Love

Film Synopsis

Michèle, a Parisian fashion designer, finds she cannot go on living when her philandering boyfriend Philippe walks out on her.  She attempts suicide by swallowing a large quantity of barbiturates, but she is saved in the nick of time by her friend and collaborator, Gladys.  After regaining consciousness, Michèle is nursed back to health in her apartment by a young American named Ann, who looks as if she is barely out her teens.  Michèle grows to like Ann - her innocence is a breath of fresh air - and the two soon become the best of friends.

Ann's cheerfulness is just the tonic that Michèle needs to help her regain her zest for living, and it isn't long before the latter is introducing her new friend to the delights of the lively Parisian night scene.  Entering a popular nightclub, Michèle has an unexpected encounter with her ex-lover Philippe, who has by this time taken up with Gladys.  Ever the eternal skirt-chaser, Philippe cannot help noticing Ann and within seconds of this first meeting he has already made up his mind to make her his next feminine conquest...
