Le Trouble-fesses is the only
film directed by Raoul Foulon, a professional photographer, and it's
not hard to see why this is. Michel Galabru admitted that it was
the worst film he ever appeared in, and, given the number of trashy
comedies to which he lent his talents, that says pretty well all you
need to know about it. By now, we have become inured to watching
Galabru demeaning himself in idiotic garbage like this, but to see
Bernadette Lafont, a cherished diva of the French New Wave, doing the
same, and apparently enjoying every minute of it, is enough to make you
want to vomit into the face of commercial cinema. The plot, what
there is of it, makes no sense whatsoever and is just an excuse for a
tedious run-around in which an ugly sex maniac (Maurice Risch) plays
cat and mouse with the lamest comicbook Mafiosi hitmen you can
imagine. Le Trouble-fesses
was presumably conceived as a comedy but it somehow ended up as the
crudest instrument of torture. Trapped in an closed auditorium
with this film, you'll soon be screaming to be let out. But then
we shouldn't be surprised - this was after all the decade of seriously bad comedies...
