Film Synopsis
The star photographer on a leading Canadian publication, Tom Vatanen looks
set to win the Journalist of the Year Grand Prize for his outstanding work.
He is never known to turn down an assignment that provides him with an opportunity
to push the boundaries of his art, so he willingly agrees to cover a major
news story in the suburbs of Montreal that risks becoming a national sensation.
The sight of a dozen or so young people who have died from a drugs overdose
is more than even Tom can bear. Unable to carry out his mission, he
heads back home by car and promptly runs straight into a hare.
Still shaken by his recent experiences, the journalist leaves his vehicle
and comes to the aid of the stricken animal. The hare is too quick
for him, and sensing danger it darts off as fast as it can into some nearby
woods. Undeterred by the creature's surprising agility, Tom hurries
after it and within no time they have gained not only each other's trust,
but also the beginnings of a deep friendship. Together, the man and
his hare set out on a series of adventures across Canada. In the course
of this bizarre excursion, Tom not only has a chance to get closer to nature,
he also begins to understand himself a little better. What the hare
makes of it all, we can only guess...
