Film Synopsis
After Algerian independence, a family of pieds-noirs attempt to make a
new life for themselves in France. For the father, Albert
Narboni, it is a painful period of readjustment. How he misses
the old life as a grocer in the country he had loved all his
life. His son Paul, a teenager about to experience his first
taste of romance, is also unsettled by the move but is more optimistic
about what the future may bring. First settling in Marseille,
then moving onto Paris, the family makes several friends, but many of
these turn out to be outright crooks. Gradually, they begin to
settle down and adjust to their new life in France...
