Film Synopsis
Emmanuel Roy was just 17 years old when his father died from cancer in 1993.
There is no doubt that the cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos, the
material which, in a previous age, was used universally as a fire-proofing
material. At the time, no one had any inkling of the risks associated
with handling this seemingly miraculous material. Asbestos was used
everywhere and everyone thought it was as harmless as any other building
material. Now we know different, and many thousands of individuals
who spent years working with asbestos are paying the price with their health,
dying a slow and agonising death brought on by asbestos-induced cancer.
Before he died, Roy's father kept a diary in which he recorded his thoughts
and the grim details of his physical decline. It is this personal testimony
that prompted Emmanuel Roy to make this documentary, a sobering reminder
of the devastating effect that the supposed wonder material asbestos had
on those who worked with it...
