Film Synopsis

Jean Renneval is a seductive 50 year old actor who, whilst on a theatrical tour in Monte Carlo, is attracted to the pretty wife of a jeweller.  Fortunately for Jean, he is able to see the woman again between the second and third acts of his play because, at that moment, her husband has to take a train to Paris.  The husband is wary of leaving his wife alone and so, before catching his train, he invites Henriette, a friend of hers, to dinner.  So far, the man has been a victim of adultery twice.  He forgave his first wife for cheating on him because she fell for a Belgian man who looked exactly like him.  He then forgave his second wife when she was unfaithful to him, because her illicit lover was sultan who, like him, was enamoured of precious jewellery.  This time, however, he is not in a forgiving mood.  Later that evening, when her husband and Henriette are away, the jeweller's wife leaves to meet Renneval at the theatre, not realising that her husband has missed his train...
