Film Synopsis
Choosing a life companion is a tricky business, as Fontaine Leglou
discovers at a somewhat delicate time in her life. In her late thirties,
she is all too aware that menopause is careering towards her, and yet she
still has doubts as to whether her present lover, Michel Strogoff, is the
man she wants to spend the rest of her life with. Fontaine has everything
she could want to be happy. She has a well-paid and satisfying job
as an anaesthetist at an exclusive private clinic, and she is reasonably
settled with Michel, who is a kind and attentive companion. He is evidently
keen to marry her and start a family, but she is uncertain if this is really
what she wants. As she contemplates her future, Fontaine becomes increasingly
aware of the men around her, and wonders if her future husband is somewhere
amongst them.
One day, Fontaine makes the acquaintance of a man named Philippe who further
aggravates her doubts. Like her, he is in the medical profession, but
he has been admitted to the clinic as a patient to receive treatment for
some severe psychological problems. Fontaine cannot account for her
attraction to this older man. Is she really falling in love with him,
or is she merely looking for an excuse to end her dead-end relationship with
Michel? Fontaine's unwillingness to commit herself turns out to be
just one symptom of the mid-life crisis that is now threatening to unbalance
her whole life. She knows that time is running out. If she wants
to start a family she has to make her mind up soon. But still she hesitates...
