Régis Wargnier is a French film director and screenwriter. He was born in Paris, France on 18 April 1948. Wargnier began his career in 1972 as an assistant to Michel Deville on La Femme en bleu. He made his directing debut in 1986 with La Femme de ma vie, which won him the Best César for First Work. His third feature, Indochine (1992), was an international hit and won not only the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film but also five Césars. Wargnier received further acclaim for his 2000 film Est-Ouest, which he followed with a television sports documentary, Coeurs d'Athlètes (2003). More recently, he directed Joseph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas in Man to Man (2005) and adapted a Fred Vargas crime novel as Pars vite et reviens tard (2007).
