Film Review

Abstract picture representing Good Night (2008)
Dipped in humour and pathos, Good Night by Geetika Narang is one of those rare films that makes you smile and weep at once. With Indian film music as the perfect backdrop, the film gently takes us to witness a night in the life of Madan Mohan Khullar, a retired gentleman living life on his own terms. As one tragicomic situation unfolds after another, the narrative builds up to an enchanting climax and wraps up with a delightful ending.

Narang, who is also the writer of the film, dexterously handles the story peppering it with genuine moments of humour and emotion. Vinod Nagpal essays Khullar with astonishing skill. The film rests on his performance and he seems to relish it. With some crisp editing and striking photography, Narang delivers a compelling film.

Film Synopsis

Madan Mohan Khullar is a retired engineer who is especially fond of traditional Hindi music.  One night, he is haunted by one particular song whose lyrics he can only partially recall.  The song, with its beguiling melody, so troubles Khullar that he is driven to seek it out, but as he does so his imperfect memory hampers his obsessive quest.  He can expect little help from his roguish manservant Ratan, who lacks his aesthetic appreciation and sensitivity.  Undeterred, Khullar continues his compulsive search, determined to follow it wherever it may lead him...
