Scènes de ménage (1954)
Directed by André Berthomieu

Comedy

Film Synopsis

France, 1910.  A genteel tea room would seem to be the ideal venue for three old friends to meet up and exchange amusing stories about their ridiculous husbands.  Aglaé relates with some pride how she succeeded in taming her jealous spouse.  Valentine had a greater challenge when her husband, a writer of romantic fiction, objected to her extravagant spending habits, claiming it stopped him from working.  Ernestine still revels in the occasion when she cheated on her bothersome husband, Boulingrin.  The arrival of the Desvillettes, freeloaders of the worst possible kind, causes these wives and their husbands to settle their differences in their efforts to put up a united front against a common enemy...

The brighter side of Franz Kafka

In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
