Salafistes (2016)
Directed by François Margolin, Lemine Ould M. Salem

Documentary / War

Film Synopsis

In 2012, two filmmakers - François Margolin and Lemine Ould M. Salem - visited several countries - notably Mali and Mauritania - where sharia (Islamic law) is widely practised and speak to several political and religious figures on the matter.  They also interview several ordinary people in these countries who have been won over by Salafism, which preaches a return to fundamentalist Islam.  At a time when Islamic fundamentalism is on the rise, and with it an upsurge in religious intolerance and terrorist attrocities, Margolin and Salem's film offers some disturbing insights into the mentality of those who seek a return to the old traditions based on a jihadist interpretation of Islam.
