Film Synopsis

Because he is from Luxembourg, Julien is not called up during the First World War.  He is able to pursue his piano studies in Paris, subsisting on his income as a music critic for a newspaper.  His friend Jacques, a musician like himself, has enlisted as an aviator.  One day, Julien receives a telegram from Jacques, inviting him to his family residence during his next period of leave.  When he arrives at Jacques's home, Julien waits in vain for his friend to turn up.  The next morning, Jacques takes the train back to Paris, convinced that his friend may have been killed in the war...
