Nathalie leaves her home in the provinces to move to Paris with her two sons, having found a well-paid job with a respectable firm of jewellers.  At the last moment, after finding a place to live in the capital, Nathalie is informed that her employers no longer need her services.  The young woman is understandably shaken by this let down but she is determined to keep it to herself so as not to upset her sons.  One lie leads to another and Nathalie manages to keep up the deception when she finds poorly paid work in bar.  For a time everything seems to be going as well as it might.  But then her eldest son begins to discover the truth...
