Film Synopsis
Frédérique is a woman in her mid-twenties who is already sick
of life. She has grown to despise all men, having been maltreated by
her father and rejected by her lover. Nothing in life interests her
any more, not even her work as a nurse. She makes up her mind to kill
herself. So, with that end in mind, she goes off into the woods with
a rifle and looks for a quiet spot where she can end her days. Before
she can bring herself to commit this last act of desperation two rowdy teenage
boys appear from nowhere. Taken by surprise, Frédérique
turns the gun on them and lets off a bullet. One of the boys, 14-year-old
Marco, is hit and drops to the ground. Frédérique runs
off in a panic but quickly comes to her senses.
No one saw her fire the shot, so what does she have to fear? She decides
the best thing is forget the incident ever happened. But what goes
around comes around... Resuming her duties as a nurse, Frédérique
is surprised when she is required to attend to Marco's injuries when he is
brought into hospital. After sustaining a nasty leg wound, the boy
has every reason to be angry, but he is aggressive by nature - the result
of his neglected upbringing. Like Frédérique, he has
been badly used by life and is driven to rebel. Although she is reluctant
to have anything to do with the wild youth at first, gradually Frédérique
begins to warm to him, realising that they share a common grievance, both
being the victims of a hostile world. The time comes when she feels
she must confess to Marco that she was the one who almost killed him...
