Film Synopsis
Antoine Lemercier, a professor, and Lise Tanquerelle, a police
inspector, are spending their honeymoon in Greece. One day, they
meet a young archaeologist named Charles-Hubert Pochet who immediately
lambastes Antoine for the book he has recently penned. Pochet
later makes it up with the couple by taking them out to dinner.
The next day, the Lemerciers see Pochet's wife Agnès in the arms
of a Greek sailor, but Pochet is to happy with his latest discovery, an
antique statute, to care, even when he drops it on his leg. Under
the cover of darkness, Agnès and her Greek friend steal the
statue. Lise and Antoine resume their peaceful honeymoon but are
surprised, a few days later, to see the Greek sailor trying to sell the
statue. Antoine alerts Charles-Hubert and together they visit the
Greek, to find that his throat has been cut. Before they know it,
the two Frenchmen have been arrested, charged with the sailor's
murder...
