Drama / Romance

Film Synopsis

Mathias, a fifty-something New Yorker, divorced and penniless, arrives in Paris to sell the house he has just inherited from his father.  He is surprised to find that the splendid Parisian residence is occupied by a 92-year-old woman, Mathilde, and her daughter Chloé.  Being an American, Mathias has some difficulty understanding that the property has been sold to his father through a viager contract, the upshot of which is that not only is the old woman permitted to stay in the house until the end of her days but Mathias is legally bound to go on paying her an annuity...
