Film Synopsis
In September 1810, Napoléon's armies, under the command of Maréchal Masséna, invade Portugal. The Portguese and British troops, led by General Washington, continue the battle whilst retreating. Wellington's plan is to lure his enemy to Torres Vedras, where the fortifications are impassible. This strategy, combined with a scorched earth operation, results in a mass exodus of the civilian population. Some continue to hold out against the invader, others profit from the confusion to satisfy their baser instincts...© James Travers
