Film Synopsis

In 1945, with Germany facing defeat by the Allies, a party of Nazis plan to escape to South America aboard a submarine.  To assist them, the Nazis kidnap a French doctor named Guilbert before they depart from Oslo.  The individuals that Guilbert is expected to tend to during the long and hazardous trans-Atlantic crossing include: a sadistic Gestapo chief, Forster, and his second-in-command, Morus; a high-ranking German officer, Von Hauser; a prominent Italian businessman and his wife Hilda; and several others who are fleeing in fear of an Allied victory, including a French pro-German journalist, Couturier.  It isn't long before the anxiously awaited surrender by the Nazis is announced to the world.  This immediately causes a bloody mutiny to break out on board the submarine.  Forster deliberately sinks the craft, and Guilbert is left alone on the stricken vessel as the surviving crew and passengers take flight...

A wave of fresh talent in the late 1950s, early 1960s brought about a dramatic renaissance in French cinema, placing the auteur at the core of France's 7th art.
The very best sci-fi movies

Science-fiction came into its own in B-movies of the 1950s, but it remains a respected and popular genre, bursting into the mainstream in the late 1970s.
