Film Synopsis
It is July 1792, and the French Revolution is well under way. Armand-Pierre, a 12-year-old school boy, and his friends, Jean and André, are caught up in the excitement of the moment. They join in the singing of the Marseillaise when they catch sight of the revolutionary army heading for Paris. François Ducoureau, a bright young lawyer, has made up his mind to enlist in the army, and Armand-Pierre and his two friends are quick to follow his example, against their parents' wishes. The friends' fate is decided at the bloody battle of Valmy in September 1792. This is to be a historical battle, the first great military victory of the Revolution. But Armand-Pierre will not live to savour this victory. He is to die a hero's death on the battlefield, but through his brave sacrifice his company will be saved. Ever since, the little drummer boy's drumsticks have been heard by all those who fight and die in the name of freedom...© James Travers
