Le Vent se lève (1959)
Directed by Yves Ciampi

Comedy / Drama
aka: Operation Time Bomb

Film Synopsis

Catherine and Michel Mougins, the heirs of a shipping company, are almost bankrupt on account of their extravagant expenses.  To continue their easy way of life they plan to swindle their insurance company.  First, they will need help from Eric Müller, a seasoned sea captain and Catherine's lover.  When he is first told about the scam - to claim for damages to a boat caused by sea mines, with the resultant loss of a valuable (but entirely fictitious) cargo - Müller is sceptical that it will work, but being hard up himself he agrees to lend his support.  Once a suitable boat has been found and laden with sawdust instead of expensive Ceylon tea, a generous insurance policy is taken out and a bomb placed in the bowels of the vessel.  It seems like a foolproof plan...
