Film Synopsis
One snowy Christmas, a child is found abandoned in the entrance of a
cathedral. A couple of embroiders, the Huberts, take her in and
offer her food and shelter. The child, Angélique, relates
how she, an orphan, has been passed between foster homes all her
life. The Huberts take pity on her and agree to adopt her.
Ten years later, Angélique has grown into a beautiful young
woman and accomplished embroiderer. To reward her for the
chasuble she has embroidered for Monseigneur d'Hautecoeur, her adopted
father takes her to the bishop's ancestral home. The visit
coincides with the return of the son that the Monseigneur had just
before he took his orders. Félicien is 20, handsome and
will inherit a fortune from his mother. Pretending to be a glass
painter, he meets Angélique and the two fall in love. It
is not long before Angélique discovers Félicien's true
identity and her dreams are shattered when the Monseigneur announces
that his son will marry the noble woman Claire de Voincourt...
