Le Monde de Marty (2000)
Directed by Denis Bardiau

Comedy / Drama
aka: Marty's World

Film Synopsis

Martin Sauvier is a cheerful ten-year-old boy who is coping surprisingly well with his cancer treatment.  Preferring to be called by his alias 'Marty', he has boundless energy and has become a firm favourite with the hospital staff.  Seeing that the boy has a mania for exploration, the latter allow him to wander freely around the hospital.  Marty likes nothing better than to discover new places, so it is a thrill for him to slink his way down the hospital corridors like a secret agent.  On one of his excursions, he ends up in the room of Antoine Berrant, an elderly man suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Antoine has so few visitors.  Occasionally his wife comes to see him, but he has no other friends and family.  This is why he warms to Marty's unexpected presence.  It impresses him that a boy in his state of health can be so full of life.  Marty and Antoine are separated by sixty years and a whole lifetime of experiences, and yet they instantly bond to one another and become the closest of friends.   Through this special friendship Antoine will regain his zest for living, and he comes to cherish the day when the little boy entered his life...
