Film Synopsis

Frank Willes, a professional footballer, becomes the victim of a car accident when his vehicle collides with that of storekeeper Monsieur Grandval, who dies in the crash.  With an eye to collecting a substantial insurance payout, Frank resumes his training too soon, with the aim of aggravating his injuries.  Unfortunately, the insurance company sees through the subterfuge and Frank loses his job.  Meanwhile, Grandval's widow finds herself in trouble when an insurance investigator discovers that her husband's car was sabotaged.  A motive for murder becomes evident when it is revealed that Madame Grandval has a lover.  Seeing an opportunity to extort money, the investigator tells the whole story to Frank and offers him a strange deal: his collaboration in blackmailing Granval's widow.  When the investigator is found dead a short while later Frank is undeterred from carrying out the scheme...
