Film Synopsis

40-something Agathe has been in a relationship with Jacky, a man twenty years her junior, for four years.  Recently, she has grown tired of his jealousy and sentimental behaviour and wants to end their affair.  Jacky does everything he can to please her, but it is too late.  Returning to Agathe's villa, the couple are met by Agathe's brother Edouard and Henri Dampier, her sick father's personal physician.  Jacky's suspicions that Dampier is his rival prove to be well-founded.  The doctor is in love with Agathe and plans to elope with her to Paris. That night, Edouard receives a call notifying him that Gillou, his ex-girlfriend, has just left prison and wants to see him.  Frightened, Edouard leaves the next day and heads off to Switzerland.  After a heated argument with Jacky, Agathe finally makes up her mind to leave him.  She has no idea that the return of Edouard will propel Jacky, Dampier, Gillou and herself into an unexpected drama...

The best of American cinema
sb-img-26
Since the 1920s, Hollywood has dominated the film industry, but that doesn't mean American cinema is all bad - America has produced so many great films that you could never watch them all in one lifetime.
The best of Russian cinema
sb-img-24
There's far more to Russian movies than the monumental works of Sergei Eisenstein - the wondrous films of Andrei Tarkovsky for one.
The best of British film comedies
sb-img-15
British cinema excels in comedy, from the genius of Will Hay to the camp lunacy of the Carry Ons.
The brighter side of Franz Kafka
sb-img-1
In his letters to his friends and family, Franz Kafka gives us a rich self-portrait that is surprisingly upbeat, nor the angst-ridden soul we might expect.
The best of Japanese cinema
sb-img-21
The cinema of Japan is noteworthy for its purity, subtlety and visual impact. The films of Ozu, Mizoguchi and Kurosawa are sublime masterpieces of film poetry.
