Film Synopsis
Alain is an impulsive twenty-year-old who is determined to lead his own life,
untroubled by parental influence. For this reason, he leaves his home
and heads for Saint-Nazaire on the west coast of France. Here, he strikes
up a friendship with an amiable ship builder, José, who introduces
him to Anna, the secretary of a ship-construction company who may help him
to find work. As soon as they meet, José and Anna are aware
of a strong mutual attraction. Unfortunately, Anna's adopted father
does not take kindly to this affair and fears it will only end badly.
Thanks to Anna's intervention, José gets himself a job in the shipyard
but he has underestimated the arduousness of the work and it soon becomes
tiresome. It seems the idealistic young man will never be able to bridge
the gap between his adolescent dreams and the harsh realities of adult life...
