Film Synopsis
In 1826, the Countess de Saint-Hélie leaves Paris and takes up
residence in the old château de Carol, the home of her brother,
Baron Julius. She is accompanied by her daughter Elfy and adopted
daughter Anne. Shortly after her arrival, the Countess is
confronted with a mystery. She hears from Toussaint, a servant,
that the baron has disappeared and has become a ghost. Ten years
later, there is still no trace of the baron and Elfy and Anne are now
two attractive young women. Toussaint's nephew Hervé, who
played with Elfy and Anne when they were children, lives near the
château in a house belonging to the gamekeeper. One day,
the Countess decides to marry Elfy to Lieutenant Albéric de
Marignac. But when Albéric's father, Colonel de Marignac,
learns that Elfy has no money, he forbids the marriage.
Albéric is still resolved to marry Elfy, and even seeks the
support of King Louis XVII. On the day of his wedding,
Albéric still does not know that Elfy is secretly in love with
Hervé. But later that day, when Elfy discovers that
Hervé loves Anne, she disappears without a trace, just like
Baron Carol...
