Ida is a schoolteacher who is haunted by her concealed Jewish origins.  A widow, she lives with her 15-year-old son Nino.  In 1941, she was raped by a German soldier and consequently gave birth to another child, Useppe.  This was just the beginning of a series of terrible incidents which ended six years later with the death of Nino and Useppe...
