Film Synopsis

In Tuscany in 1945, Mara meets Bube, a partisan who has come to visit his father.  They falls in love and get engaged, but they can only see each other infrequently.  Having killed an officer and his son, Bube is forced to leave the country.  Some time later, Mara meets Stefano, who asks her to marry him.  She hesitates and then learns that Bube, having been expelled from his adopted country, has just been arrested at the border...
