Film Synopsis
Eleonore, a young teenage girl, is the daughter of Méru, a
roadworks foreman. For as long as she can remember, she is used
to living in caravans in mud beside the roads that are being
constructed by her father. She is also used to the road workers
and their machines, which she calls Giants. Since her mother's
death, Eleonore does everything she can to please her father and her
two brothers, Paul and Louis. The men who drive those enormous
machines like to be called cowboys because every day they risk their
lives, knowing that the smallest mistake could prove fatal. After
Louis gets himself killed by his Giant and Paul has left for Chad,
Eleonore feels totally lost. Luckily, she still has her
father and some friends, without whom life would be unbearable.
They are: Lucie, a 26-year-old mother, Galy, an amusing Algerian,
and Fouldroule, the owner of the local café. It is these
people who will give Eleonore the strength to go on living...
