Kiss and Cry (2017)
Directed by Chloé Mahieu, Lila Pinell

Drama / Romance

Film Synopsis

In the eastern French town of Colmar, 15-year-old Sarah Ivanov is determined to make her name as a figure skating champion.  To get there, she must submit herself to an intensive training schedule, coached by a man named Xavier who seems to take a sadistic delight in bullying and insulting the aspiring skaters.  Sarah's desires to succeed in her sport are threatened by her naturally rebellious temperament and the adolescent upheavals to which all girls of her age are prone.

The twin ordeals of training to championship level and coping with the usual teenage blues will test Sarah's personal resources to the limit, but she is helped through this gruelling phase of her life by the friendships she forges with other girls in her predicament.  But then men suddenly enter her life.  The distraction of the opposite sex is one that Sarah is ill-prepared for, and this may be enough to scupper her dreams of skating glory for good...

The best of Russian cinema
sb-img-24
There's far more to Russian movies than the monumental works of Sergei Eisenstein - the wondrous films of Andrei Tarkovsky for one.
The best of American cinema
sb-img-26
Since the 1920s, Hollywood has dominated the film industry, but that doesn't mean American cinema is all bad - America has produced so many great films that you could never watch them all in one lifetime.
The best of Indian cinema
sb-img-22
Forget Bollywood, the best of India's cinema is to be found elsewhere, most notably in the extraordinary work of Satyajit Ray.
French cinema during the Nazi Occupation

Even in the dark days of the Occupation, French cinema continued to impress with its artistry and diversity.
