Film Synopsis
Nénette is a woman of sixty but she has a mental age of eight, thanks
to an unfortunate birth defect. She has always lived with her mother, who
has had a hard time bringing her up single-handedly. Despite her disability,
Nénette manages to find work, as a cleaner in a school. Her
best friend is her tortoise. The death of her mother turns Nénette's
whole life inside-out. Not only must she give up the job she adores,
she has no choice but to go into a retirement home. How can she bear
to be separated from her precious tortoise when she is told that she cannot
keep pets in her new home? She cannot, so she makes up her mind
to leave. The only person Nénette can go to now is her
father. She has a faded photograph of him and an address written on
a letter dating from many years ago. When she arrives at the address
she finds not her father but his son, Paul Bérard. A pharmacist,
Paul does not recognise the old woman who turns up on his doorstep and is
surprised to find that she is his half-sister, the half-sister he knew nothing
about...
