At twenty, Maria lives only for the moment.  One day she hopes to escape from her present humdrum existence, but for the time being she makes the most of what she has, along with her friend Linda and boyfriend Karim.  But when she gets caught shoplifting in a supermarket Maria's whole life is suddenly thrown into disarray.  At the police station where she is held in custody, Maria is raped by a policeman...
