Bernard Monod, the manager of the Saint Vincent publishing house, is a
shy man and doesn't know how to approach the woman he has fallen in
love with, Sophie. He tries to follow the advice in a book
written by a friend of his, the optimistically titled How To Succeed In Love, without any
positive results. Then, one day, he has reason to think that his
luck may have changed. A water leak in his apartment brings him
into contact with his neighbour, an old woman who happens to be
Sophie's mother. Through this new acquaintance, he
has made the first step in winning Sophie's heart. Or so he thinks...
