Film Synopsis

Having been ruined, the Vicomte de Clerambard has become a cruel man to all people and animals.  When he kills the vicar's dog, the castle keeper decides to take revenge on Clerambard by fabricating a miracle.  A fake monk appears to Clerambard and gives him a book about Saint Franciscus.  Unaware that he is the victim of a bad joke, Clerambard is astonished by what he reads.  From now on he intends to imitate Saint Franciscus's life and begins to do everything he can for others.  When he hears that his son Octave has fallen in love with a prostitute named La Langouste, Clerambard is not angry but breaks up the impending marriage of Octave to the wealthy but ugly Brigitte, daughter of the lawyer Galuchon.  And this is only the beginning of Clerambard's new life...
