Film Synopsis

In 1936, Sergei Petrovitch Kotov, a colonel in the Red Army and a committed communist, is staying at his dacha in the vicinity of Moscow.  He is enjoying a well-deserved rest with his wife Maroussia and young daughter Nadia.  A tolerant man, he welcomes several members of his wife's family, who include bourgeois intellectuals who are hostile to communism.  Maroussia's former lover has become an agent in Stalin's political police.  He is the man tasked with arresting Sergei, suspected of idealism...
