Directed by Ken Kwapis

Adventure / Biography / Comedy / Drama

Film Synopsis

The famous writer Bill Bryson decides to begin his retirement with a challenge: to travel the length of the Appalachian Mountains in North America on foot.  It is a distance of three and a half thousand kilometres that he intends to travel, and his wife fears that he may be taking on more than he can chew.  To allay his wife's concerns, Bill tries to find someone willing to accompany him on this mammoth expedition, but no one seems interested - until he runs into an old friend, Stephen Katz.  Katz has his own reasons for wanting to get away, so Bill's plan appeals to him.  Unfortunately, he is chronically overweight and has barely enough energy to drag himself up a flight of stairs.  Undeterred, the two men set out on their adventure of a life time, heedless of the ordeal that lies ahead...
