The famous writer Bill Bryson decides to begin his retirement with a challenge:
to travel the length of the Appalachian Mountains in North America on foot.
It is a distance of three and a half thousand kilometres that he intends
to travel, and his wife fears that he may be taking on more than he can chew.
To allay his wife's concerns, Bill tries to find someone willing to accompany
him on this mammoth expedition, but no one seems interested - until he runs
into an old friend, Stephen Katz. Katz has his own reasons for wanting
to get away, so Bill's plan appeals to him. Unfortunately, he is chronically
overweight and has barely enough energy to drag himself up a flight of stairs.
Undeterred, the two men set out on their adventure of a life time, heedless
of the ordeal that lies ahead...

The history of French cinema
From its birth in 1895, cinema has been an essential part of French culture. Now it is one of the most dynamic, versatile and important of the arts in France.
Since the 1920s, Hollywood has dominated the film industry, but that doesn't mean American cinema is all bad - America has produced so many great films that you could never watch them all in one lifetime.
